BIO for Muriel Theresa Lui

Muriel T. Lui is a former student of St Mary’s Primary School and College and St Joseph’s College.

She graduated from the University of the South Pacific in Vanuatu in 2005 with a LLB and sat her bar in Fiji in 2006. Muriel then became a law clerk with the Office of the Attorney General in 2006 while undertaking her bar, under the tenor of Taulapapa Brenda Heather-Latu as Attorney General. She was promoted to State Solicitor under the tenor of Aumua Ming Leung Wai as Attorney General within the Criminal Prosecutions Division the following year and then to Senior State Solicitor.

After spending about 2 years as a criminal prosecutor she undertook civil and commercial work where she was later promoted to Principal State Solicitor. In 2012 she was promoted to head the Civil Division as Assistant Attorney General where she held the position until her resignation in 2015 to take up the position of Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, heading the District Court Division of the Prosecution Section.

Muriel spent a total of 10 years with the Office of the Attorney General before setting up Lui and Chang with Mauga Precious Chang.

Muriel specializes in civil, criminal, contract, tort and defamation law.

BIO for Mauga Precious Chang

Precious Chang graduated with both a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Commerce from the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.

She has  over 15 years of experience in practising law in Samoa. Precious experience includes court litigation in both civil and criminal proceedings.

Having a commercial background  in both qualifications and experience, she is able to provide a wide range of legal services for businesses including tax law, setting up new businesses as well as dealing in property and debt collection as well as copyrights, patents and trademarks.

 

With a lot of experience in criminal law, she is able to provide reliable services with confidence to any seeking legal assistance in criminal matters.

Precious general practice includes processing adoption documents, transfer of property documents, assisting with applications to financial institutions for commercial or personal property financing, wills, probate and resealing probates, mortgage and other general law practice matters.

Her experience in establishing a non-government organisation (SVSG) enables her to assist with many legal matters such as constitutions for non-government organisations or consultation with non-government organisations in their growth.

The time she spent as a Government lawyer in the Office of the Attorney General, one of which headed the prosecutions for all of Samoa, has given her an advantage in dealing with matters with the Government.
